Versa Networks Validates Versa VOS™ (Formerly FlexVNF) Solution for Virtualized CPE (vCPE) With EMC Technology

Addressing Service Provider Requirements for Agile and Cost-Effective Managed Services with “vCPE in a Box” Solution

Versa Networks, a networking and security company providing next-generation WAN and branch solutions for service providers and enterprises, today announced it has worked with EMC to validate a solution for creating agile managed network and security services using virtualized network functions (VNF) and x86-based open hardware.

Versa has tested and validated the interoperability of its Versa VOS™ (formerly FlexVNF)™ software on EMC’s Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure® (NFVi) platform to create an integrated “vCPE in a box” solution for deploying virtualized network and security functions in service provider points of presence (PoP) or data centers. Deploying Versa VOS™ (formerly FlexVNF) on EMC’s NFVi architecture stack enables service providers to create a wide range of managed services that combine low-cost virtualized customer premises equipment (vCPE) with advanced network and security services in the telco cloud. Commonly called vCPE services, these next-generation managed service offerings benefit both service providers and their end customers through faster service agility/provisioning, up to 80% lower CPE cost, and the ability to provide smaller customers (e.g. small to medium businesses, or SMB) with near enterprise-level technology and security.

The offer leveraging Versa and EMC products supports a variety of Virtual Infrastructure Management choices, including VMware VIO with NSX and ESX, and Red Hat OpenStack Platform (OSP) with OpenStack Open vSwitch (OVS) and KVM. Hardware abstraction and orchestration is provided by EMC’s NFVi Manager software and high-performance storage is provided through EMC ScaleIO. VNFs are provided by Versa VOS™ (formerly FlexVNF) software and include a wide range of networking and advanced security functions including routing, VPN, CGNAT, next-gen firewall, URL filtering, AV/IPS and more with integrated service chaining.

Versa with EMC vCPE is highly efficient and cost effective for service providers because it provides multi-tenancy across all its services, coupled with the ability to easily add VNFs by provisioning additional virtual machines (VMs). Each Versa VNF supports up to 250 end-customer organizations – greatly reducing head-end capex for providers versus having to deploy individual aggregation devices for each end customer.

Service providers can benefit from Versa Flex VNF with EMC through increased service agility, reduced capital costs, and increased market opportunity. Providers can increase the agility of their managed services through significantly faster deployment times – often in hours vs. months – due to the zero-touch provisioning of Versa VOS™ (formerly FlexVNF) on EMC’s NFVi stack. Capital costs can be reduced up to 80% versus proprietary networking and security hardware appliances. Providers can also increase their market opportunity through creating richer services and higher revenue streams while still providing an affordable service for SMB customers.
