PIM Sparse Mode (PIM-SM) – A PIM mode that forwards multicast traffic toward receivers only after an explicit join request, distributing traffic from a rendezvous point rather than assuming receivers exist; used in Versa SD-WAN multicast deployments built around a hub-and-spoke topology.
