AI is the ability of a digital computer to mimic human intelligence. The algorithms are designed to make decisions, often using real-time data, such as learning, decision-making reasoning, text processing, and visual perception. From interacting with smart assistants like Alexa or Siri to personally curated social media feeds, we use this technology in many aspects of our daily life.
It isn’t a thing of the future—it’s already here.
There isn’t a better time than today to be in this booming industry. Rather than serving as a replacement for human intelligence or displacing workers, the new and emerging field creates more jobs and aids us in getting things done faster and more efficiently. In fact, according to the World Economic Forum, 85 million jobs will be eliminated and 97 million new ones created thanks to AI by 2025. That’s an overall addition of 12 million jobs.
Methodology
Computer skills are becoming more sought after as companies from different industries explore how machine learning can help them innovate old processes, improve user experience, and keep them on the frontlines regarding how they do business.
To find where the most artificial intelligence jobs are located, we collected data based on several factors: the number of full and part-time positions, whether workers had to be on-site or work remotely, the number of jobs available for each experience level (i.e., internship, entry, associate, mid-senior, director, and executive), and the industries with the most availability.
Next, we sourced data from April 2022 on Linkedin, the world’s largest professional network on the internet, to determine which U.S. states and international economies are hiring the most and least in AI jobs. For this study, we researched the top 25 economies in the world according to Investopedia.
Top Countries Hiring the Most in AI
The future is bright for AI as the demand continues to rise around the globe. Home to the world’s biggest tech hub, Silicon Valley, it’s no surprise that the U.S. dominates the market. The United States is the global hub for IT services and consulting, and provides almost twice as many opportunities as the other top countries, with 53,352 available.
At the same time, China has proved to be a fierce competitor. Although there are only 23,025 AI job listings now, the tech giant may lead the pack in the future. PwC Global reports AI will help boost the GDP of local economies, with China expected to record the most significant gains, 26% by 2030.
India, the third-largest producer, has 14,383 IT jobs open. As one of the fastest-growing economies globally, the market is projected to expand at a five-year compound annual growth rate of 20.2%, earning $7.8 billion in revenue.
The United Kingdom has 13,184 AI jobs accepting applications. The U.K. has had a reputation as a world leader in innovation for a long time. Famously known for its consulting companies and financial institutions, the country’s technological infrastructure lays a solid foundation for plenty of AI opportunities. Germany is next on our list with 5,483 jobs up for grabs.
Experience Level Requirements in AI Around the World
Whether you’re entry or senior level, the AI world is abundant with different career opportunities. This means an applicant can apply to various roles depending upon the position. However, the jobs don’t come easily just because you’ve earned a degree. A strong skill set is needed to be successful in the tech industry.
Mid-to-senior level positions are most common in the industry’s top leading countries, such as the U.S. (13,362), China (7,650), the United Kingdom (3,898), India (1,951), and Germany (1,015). In these countries, hiring managers like to see a robust resume in addition to a solid educational framework.
Even though the U.S. is primarily on the hunt for a candidate with extensive experience, the leading country offers ample internship opportunities (985). A recent college graduate or young professional, on the other hand, would benefit from going for entry level and associate positions in countries like China, India, Japan, and Brazil.
U.S. States Hiring the Most & Least in AI
AI is undoubtedly a driving force in our society’s digital transformation. So, if you’re looking for a secure, stable future, you can’t go wrong with choosing an AI career.
