Current Analysis Upgrades Versa Networks’ SD-WAN from “Strong” to “Very Strong” in Latest Market Update Report

Research says, “Versa’s architecture is versatile and supports multi-tenancy in the branch, vCPE and controller, making it particularly useful for service providers and enterprises alike”.
Santa Clara, Calif., September 7, 2016

Versa Networks, a leading provider of software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) and software-defined security (SD-Security) solutions for service providers and enterprises, today announced that industry analyst firm Current Analysis has upgraded the Versa SD-WAN solution from a “Strong” rating to a “Very Strong” rating. The new report, “SD-WAN H1 2016 Market Update,” says, “Versa’s architecture is versatile and supports multi-tenancy in the branch, vCPE, and controller, making it particularly useful for service providers and enterprises alike.” Out of the nine vendors spotlighted in the report, Versa Networks is the only vendor with a pure software SD-WAN product to receive a “Very Strong” rating. In a statement about near term drivers, report author and Current Analysis principal analyst Mike Fratto wrote, “Application and vendor ecosystems as well as application integration capabilities in SD-WAN products will spur adoption of SD-WAN for both enterprise customers and service providers, because managing application traffic based on competing needs is a continual thorn in the side of IT and the ability to automate quality of experience is compelling.”

Fratto also noted, “Service providers are looking for ways to add value to their services and to fight being relegated to plumbers providing pipes to customers. Managed SD-WAN is nicely aligned with managed services and fits neatly into service providers’ network functions virtualization strategy. SD-WAN vendors are making their products attractive to service providers with APIs for OSS and BSS integration, function modularity, and flexible licensing models.”

He concluded by saying, “SD-WAN vendors targeting service providers should build their product to be composable into small functional applications that can be moved from the core, provider edge, and customer premises. NFV style deployments won’t work well with large, monolithic software products because of the compute resources needed. In addition, licensing models need to match the subscription-driven model service providers are adopting for customers.”

“Being promoted by Current Analysis from ‘Strong’ to ‘Very Strong’ in the SD-WAN market is quite a testament to the strength of our solution,” said Mark Weiner, CMO at Versa Networks. “This updated report illustrates the significant product differentiators that Versa has developed, and explains our growing penetration in the market. We remain heads down, continuing to drive our innovation in the SD-WAN space.”

Noted Competitive Strengths

Unlike its competitors, Versa key strengths, as referenced in the report, include:

  • Versa’s architecture is versatile and supports multi-tenancy in the branch, vCPE, and controller, making it particularly useful for service providers and enterprises alike
  • The company emphasizes its rich integration capabilities using standardized protocols between nodes and REST APIs for integration with systems such as OSS/BSS, NFV orchestration, and cloud management
